A Bittersweet End...

3 days ago, I said goodbye to a place that will always have a place in my heart...
That place is called KmPk or better known as "Kolej Matrikulasi Perak"...

When I first set my foot here, my first impression was "OMG !!! What did I do to end up here ?? This place is like a jungle.... Not being used to hostel life and all, I imagined life here would have been difficult... But that was not to be the story... The first person I met here was my beloved roommate, Lan... A fellow Ipohite, he and I were pretty shy and rather stand-offish when we first met... but as time went on, we were like brothers...

The second I met here was also my roommate, a Kelantanese named Iqbal... Although, our moments were short (he left for Egypt to do medicine), he left a lasting impression on my mind... My final roommate too was a Kelantanese... His name was Faris... You can basically say that he is one of best friends here... We understood each other pretty well and he is an inspiration to me during my not-so smooth sailing life here in matriculation... From my ups to my downs,he was there to keep me boosted... A true friend indeed...

Moving on, the next group of people whom I met were my classmates... my cherished M6T28a classmates...
They were all amazing and great... especially Samad, Fatin, Ainul, Mai and Chinese duo of Cheann and Serene.... I will not forget them for their good deeds and help....
I'll miss them...

From right: Ainul (in orange), Mai (in blue), Fatin (standing in the middle dressed in purple), Samad (in black), Cheann (in striped pink) and Serene (on the left, also in purple)

Throughout my time here, I learned many new things... Things that can't be explained using words nor pictures... But all these things helped to make me a better person... For what I know KmPk will always have a special place in my heart...

Sincerely,
Apple Aslaam

English Vinglish: No Pain, No Gain... Shashi's Baby Steps..

Aloha folks...

Apple Aslaam is back to continue his review on the movie, English Vinglish...
As you all know, Shashi, the lead protagonist of the movie, had trouble learning English.... Sadly for her, she had no one to help her and had to learn through the hard way, which is by making mistakes...

Shashi made her first English speaking error when she wrongly pronounced the English word "jazz" as "jhazz"... It amused her family but did nothing to encourage her pursuit to master the language....
She also committed an error when she entered her English class and said "Can I come in ?"... She was corrected by Mr.David who said "May I come in ? is the correct sentence"....

Then, in America, she also asked her English tutor, the jovial Mr.David why "India is called India but America is called The United States Of America ?"... A sensational question which clearly showed that our lovely heroine Shashi was developing her English....

She then also asked her cousin, Radha what is the meaning of judgemental. Radha too duly explained to her its meaning....

Moral of the story
- If you want something, you should work hard for it.... As the great Chinese sage Confucius quoted "Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising everytime we fall"....

The Mean, Outrageously Clueless Husband

Hi guys and gals !!!

I'm back !! Apple Aslaam is here to continue his review on the blockbuster Hindi hit,"English Vinglish"...
Wow, what a movie !!
If you had read my initial review... then get yourself ready for this as I'm not going to mince my words for Satish Godbole, the outrageously mean husband of Shashi !!!

Poor Shashi... What on earth did she do to get a dastardly husband like that ?!!!
I mean, who the hell does the guy think he is ??
The President of The United States ??? He was such an arrogant snob throughout the movie....

Let me give you some examples of his disgusting behaviour...

Exhibit A...
Satish was so preoccupied with his work that he never had time to spend with Shashi... He always came late to home from work... which probably meant that Shashi had to take care of the household for long periods of hours... enduring taunts from her disapproving daughter Sapna and minding the ever carefree Sagar.... He only viewed Shashi as a lady who cooks well... and nothing else but that ! Dude, would it hurt to give her compliments for something else but her food.... For goodness sake, she's your wife !!
He also sent Shashi to the PTA meeting in Sapna's school whereas he knew that Shashi's English was horrific.... He also sent Shashi to the US all on her own... Didn't he ever cared for her ???

Exhibit B...
When in US, the pathetic baffoon accused Shashi of neglecting her family in return for fun and entertainment... This was visible when he slammed her for neglecting Sagar after he got hit by a ball... He also said that Shashi was born to make ladoo.... which badly undermined her growing self confidence.... When all of Shashi's classmates praised her as an entrepreneur, this "villain" belittled her....

Shameful !!

Throughout the movie, he kept on proving how selfish and insensitive he is.... From hugging another women in front of Shashi and laughing at her mistake in pronouncing "jazz", he proved to be a major obstacle in Shashi discovery of self-enlightenment...
But every sky has its silver lining...
He finally realised his error at the end of the movie when Shashi made her speech... This motivated him to be a better husband and father....

May God help him..... :P

English Vinglish... What a COMEBACK !!!

I've just finished watching the movie "English Vinglish", a movie which I have to say is really awesome and fantabulous !!! Anyone who had watched this awesome movie would have said by now that the iconic Sridevi is a real show stealer... Just look at the way how she dazzled in playing the role of the long-suffering and timid housewife, Shashi....

Sridevi plays the role of an Indian who is mocked by her family for her inabilty to converse in English... Although the movie is literally another rags to riches tale, the importance of English in the modern world is featured prominently in here.. Watch the scene where Shashi's daughter mocked her for her weak command of the language.... Yes, ladies and gentleman, English can make one turn against his or her own blood... Ironic, isn't it ??

But that's not the only thing worth noticing in the movie... The Manhattan skylines and sceneries, some good music, funny jokes by the Indo-Pakistan duo and the swooning charms of Laurent, the French chef who is head over heels for Shashi... The brief appaerance by Amitabh Bachchan also added more humour to a movie that is already saturated by it... But, back to the main point... Shashi !!!
Don't we just love her ???

Why we love her ??....

Reason 1:
She was determined to endure the abuse from her family members and the general society who made a joke out of her due to her English... Remember the cafe scene ??? If it was me, after the traumatic incident in the cafe, I would have let go of my intention to study or better, speak English... But tell that to Shashi and she would throw her sandals on your face,,,, She persevered through everything to achieve her dream of speaking English... She didnt give up... even when her husband scolded her for leaving them at Manhattan Park... She continued to learn with the great support of her fellow classmates and of course, her own cuz, Radha played brilliantly by Priya Anand...

Reason 2:
She was willing to sacrifice herself for her family... An evidence of this is the scene in the school... She could've skipped the PTA meeting if she wanted to as her English was awful... yet she didn't... She went to her daughter's school and even made the priest, Mr.Vincent laugh with her wicked sense of culinary related humour... Yet the daughter slammed her for doing so... So ungrateful !!!! She also showed love for her husband, Satish, who saw her as a cook and caretaker only.... She could've riled her feelings right into his heart but she didnt... She was like the candle that burned itself to light up others...

And... At the end of the day, she succeeded....
Congrats Shashi !!!!

Dont forget top watch the movie with your family as it will teach you to learn, love, be compassionate and grateful for what you have.... Enjoy the movie folks !!!

Love ya !!
